Butler-Brown Insurance was formed in 1995 through the merger of Brown Insurance Services and Professional Insurance Counselors. Though both companies were healthy and strong on their own, and offered superior service and rates, the combined expertise and core competencies of both have been leveraged through the merger. Now, you have an array of insurance products -- life, auto, homeowners, health, commercial, aviation, etc. -- available at a fraction of the typical industry costs. With almost three decades of insurance service knowledge and expertise each, both Ed Butler and Steve Brown draw on their skills and experience gained at Brown Insurance Services and Professional Insurance Counselors. Since 1948 the combination of Brown Insurance Services, the Charles Russell Agency, Professional Insurance Counselors, and now Butler-Brown Insurance has served Oskaloosa and southern Iowa with professional service and cost-effective insurance coverage.
Professional Insurance Counselors was originally founded in 1948 by Charles Russell as the Charles Russell Agency. Mr. Russell's vision was to provide high-quality, affordable insurance services to the inhabitants and businesses in Oskaloosa and it's surrounding farm communities. Ed Butler joined the firm in 1970 and worked over the next few decades to rise through the ranks and ultimately become owner of the company. Along with his partner, Steve Brown, and the rest of the staff, he has continued to follow that vision.
Brown Insurance Services was founded by Charles G. Brown in 1952 to provide insurance services to the residents of Oskaloosa. Mr. Brown's son, Steve, joined the company in 1972 and after his father's retirement he became owner.
